Question: Until now, the only song you have written with Dave Gahan is 'Oh Well'. Why are you so evasive of this kind of collaboration?
Martin: There is yet another track, it's called "Long Time Lie" and will be put on the deluxe version of Delta Machine. This track was truly written together, as "Oh Well" was originally meant as an instrumental techno track by me, to which Dave added his own text and sang it on top of the track. "Long Time Lie" was also meant to be become an instrumental track, and Dave wrote lyrics to it once again - to which I added a few more passages. So that was a more collaborative job, if you like.
Question: That means, the two of you worked one after another on the track, but not with one another. That isn't really what people strictly call a collaboration. Simply just sitting together and writing together - you are still avoiding this?
Martin: Well, we always talk about whether we should do that sometime or not. But when Dave writes a song, he's always doing that with other people but me.
Question: With this album that person is the Swiss musician Kurt Uenala. Is Dave Gahan simply afraid of you as a songwriting partner?
Martin: I don't know. But with the next album we should try it together sometime.
Question: Really?
Martin: Really.
Martin also says that the two songs which are sung by Martin instead of Dave are "The Child Inside" and "Always".
