Il miglior pezzo dell'album dovrebbe essere "Should Be Higher" :

This death-disco creeper is by far the best track on the album. All the traditional elements of Depeche Mode get held back or rearranged or sung in falsetto so that, while still classic, the song sounds fresh. It's also the best mix. You know that high whistle on U2's "With Or Without You," the one you can't forget once you hear it the first time? This song has the same thing, only it's a sizzle.

Viene descritta come una canzone che ti resta dentro come "With or Without You" degli U2... "indimenticabile"

A me sembra molto più marginale...vuoi mettere con sotu? è come se i depeche gli avessero detto "ok metti qualche scoreggetta quà e là,ma non di più" invece sotu sembra basato sulle scoreggette alla hiller.

Per esempio,in heaven si sente il tocco di hiller,ma molto poco e così anche mi piace naturalmente imho

a me pare che se i DM avessero continuato con la produzione anni 90 (Wilder&Co) si sarebbero arenati definitivamente. Hiller non è il massimo forse, ma forse è anche presto per capirlo, però rappresenta certo una svolta. Le canzoni dei DM sono anche cambiate, adesso c'è una 'penna' in più, Dave, e , piaccia o no, questa è l'evoluzione dei nostri, perchè di evoluzione si tratta. Ben vengano le scorreggette di Hiller, è sempre 'aria' nuova

hai ragione, ma alla puzza ci si abitua, mentre nelle paludi dei vecchi arrangiamenti di Wilder (ormai stanchi e ripetitivi) si sprofonda. è stato bello quello che è stato bello, Wilder è stato un grande, ma ora è un'altra storia e si va avanti puzza o non puzza

...it's a stonker! What a relief!

Forgive me, I'm very busy for the next few hours, so I won't have time for a proper more detailed review until later today, but here are the main facts you all must be as curious about as I was until an hour ago:

-- There are no instrumentals on the album, all 13 tracks are proper-length vocal tracks
-- Only one track is sung by Martin (The Child Inside), although his harmonies are of course everywhere as usual
-- Heaven sounds like nothing else on the album -- Angel is representative but one of the weakest tracks IMO
-- I'll stick my neck out and guess that Secret To The End (excellent), Should Be Higher (excellent) and Soothe My Soul (the weakest tracks) are all Dave tracks. I'm not sure about Broken (a true standout), which has both some very Martin touches but also some clumsy lyrical non-sequitors. The rest are pure Martin
-- it's uptempo, harsh, with bursts and breaks of bluesy guitar: VCMG meets PTA.
-- this whups the sorry little pale arse of SOTU, although the lack of something as instantly classic as Precious might mean that it's not quite up there with PTA. But close.
-- the total length is very close to 60 minutes.
