oggi pomeriggio uscita dal lavoro ho fatto un salto alla Fnac...c'erano 5 copie di Dirty Sticky Floors (singolo + video) a 3€ (offerta regalo della serie o la prendi o te la regalo) e sotto scritto "waiting for..."...qualcosa si muove...Poi un mio amico che lavora all'interno mi ha detto che c'è una certa attesa...questo non so se è dovuto al fatto che lui ed altri là dentro sono fans oppure perchè c'è curiosità davvero.
Presumo che la poca pubblicità sia una mossa voluta. Comunque sia mi basta averne una copia

The inimitable Dave Gahan makes a dynamic return on 22nd October with 'Hourglass' - his eagerly awaited second solo album. Best known as the iconic frontman of Depeche Mode, he continues his impressive career with a blazing new side-project, which follows his critically acclaimed solo debut 'Paper Monsters'.

Produced by Dave with Christian Eigner & Andrew Phillpott, both members of the Depeche Mode touring band, 'Hourglass' also reflects Gahan's growth as a songwriter. Initially showcased with 2003's 'Paper Monsters', he later wrote 3 stellar tracks for Depeche Mode's recent 2 million selling 'Playing The Angel' - 'I Want It All', 'Suffer Well' & 'Nothing's Impossible'.

Hourglass highlights include the gospel-tinged 'Saw Something', which kick-starts the album with stealth before effortlessly setting the tone for the other 9 tracks. "That was the catalyst that started the idea to write again," Dave recalls, adding that is was also "the first lyric, and the key to open the door to thinking, 'Okay, I can go here.'"

Other standout moments include the exhilarating, tour de force roar of 'Deeper and Deeper', the soaring epic first single 'Kingdom' (out on 8th October) and the addictive pull of 'Use You', where he scathingly lets loose his disgust with people, and specifically, himself. Meanwhile, on 'Down' - perhaps the most confessional song on the record - he confesses "I feel so old, down on the ground is where I'm bound to end up."

Sonically, the record cuts across a range of influences and styles with grace. Decidedly more electronic than his previous solo work, he has seamlessly swapped the guitar of 'Paper Monsters' for the synthesizer he epitomizes so well.

although I owe everything to it. I'm starting to really feel that I have my own voice, and it's definitely coming out in the songs. For me, it's the best possible record I could make at this time. And it's gone well beyond what I expected of myself."

Insomma, se perfino gli album dei DM hanno bisogno di una massiccia promozione, com'è possibile che per Dave si vada così al ribasso? Forse non ci credono manco loro ...
È vero, le promozioni costano e mica poco, però... manco qualche data in Europa prima del rientro in studio? Su quello sì, sono perplesso.

...mah... io torno a ripetere che, secondo me, ci sono problemi di budget.

Se poi è vero quello che c'è scritto nell'ultima press release postata da gaugahan poco sopra, sembra che i produttori effettivi del disco siano lo stesso Dave, Eigner e Philpott. Il che significa, credo, che hanno investito loro in prima persona per fare questo disco.

Evidentemente Hoffner, più che del produttore, ha rivestito il ruolo di tecnico e mixer.

Non sono troppo addentro ai meccanismi finanziari che stanno dietro alle produzioni discografiche, ma credo che questo abbia qualcosa a che fare con gli investimenti che si potevano fare nel produrre Hourglass e nella promozione successiva.

Probabilmente, anzi, sicuramente, si tratta di una produzione quasi "casalinga". Di conseguenza gli investimenti per promuovere il disco sono molto ridotti. Ed evidentemente ciò influisce anche sul possibile tour successivo all'uscita.

Se poi, per le previsioni di spesa ed i ritorni si sono basati sul precedente Paper Monsters non credo che avrebbero potuto sbilanciarsi di più.

In sostanza penso che la EMI non abbia voluto dare a Gahan più del dovuto. Considerato che sì, ha una carriera ultra-ventennale, ma è uno che, tutto sommato, fuori dai Depeche non è quasi nessuno.

Del resto anche i dischi solisti di Martin e Alan non sono stati promossi e finanziati granchè.

Oltretutto c'è da dire che per un quasi cinquantenne con una grande carriera alle spalle è difficile, se non impossibile, mettersi a rischiare del proprio per affermarsi come artista solista.

Dave dovrebbe forse cambiare etichetta e dare un calcio ai DM. Ma chi glielo fa fare?

L’inimitabile Dave Gahan fa un ritorno dinamico il 22 ottobre con hourglass – il suo entusiasticamente atteso secondo album solista. Conosciuto principalmente come l’iconico frontman dei Depeche Mode, continua la sua impressionante carriera con un nuovo progetto, che segue l’acclamato dalla critica debutto paper monsters.
Prodotto da Dave con Christian Eigner e Andrew Phillpott, entrambi membri dei Depeche mode durante i tour, hourglass riflette anche la sua crescita come compositore. Inizialmente mostratosi con l’album del 2003 paper monsters, ha poi scritto tre tracce per il recente albem (che ha venduto 2 milioni di copie) pta - 'I Want It All', 'Suffer Well' e 'Nothing's Impossible'.
Le principali canzoni di hourglass comprendono “Saw comething”, dalle tinte gospel, la quale da inizio all’album con circospezione prima di lasciare facilmente spazio per le altre nove tracce. “E' stata la catalisi che ha dato il via all’idea di scrivere di nuovo”, ha detto Dave, aggiungendo che è stato “il primo testo, e la chiave per aprire la porta pensando ‘Ok, posso entrarci’”.
Gli altri momenti che spiccano includono l’esilarante boato da tour de force di “Deeper and deeper”; il crescente ed epico primo singolo “Kingdom” (in uscita l’8 ottobre) e il forte pulsare di “Use you”, dove Dave causticamente lascia libero il suo disgusto per la gente, e in modo particolare per lui.
