Andy Fletcher confident that Depeche Mode will begin recording a new album by early 2012
1. The first question is traditional: what do you know about our country - Belarus?
A little bit. I know where it is, and I heard about the city. I look forward to a trip to see for the first time Belarus.
2. If you like Belarus, you convince Dave and Martin turn it into a program for your next tour?
Yes! It’s one of the purposes of my visit: to see the country, meet with fans. And we would like to come back as a group. It would be wonderful.
3. You are going to act in Minsk as a DJ, but for most of your fans you are a member of Depeche Mode. How do you feel about that?
Normally, I’m comfortable. You know, Dave and Martin - it is really big stars, but I - probably the guy in the background that I, in principle, I do.
4. Have any news about the new album Depeche Mode? Martin and Dave had already started to write songs?
Yes, Dave and Martin have already started writing songs. We plan to soon begin recording the album, and we’re all very happy. Hopefully, after a while we go on tour.
5. When you start recording an album, and when it is ready?
I can not say for sure. It all depends on how will quickly write Martin and Dave. I can tell you one thing: we would like to finish the songs before you go into the studio. I’m sure it will happen early next year.
6. Do you think hard whether to work together for decades? Maybe you’re tired of each other, or just used to each other?
You know, we were lucky: we are all from the same city. We have the same sense of humor, same interests. Only once in our whole career was a case where we thought that everything could end. That was when Dave was very ill and in hospital. But we are a strong team and continue it to be and work.
7. What do you think about the resumption of cooperation with Alan Wilder in Depeche Mode?
As you know, he performed the song at a concert with Martin and recently did a remix for us, “In Chains”. I do not think that he would return to the group. But somehow we can work with him.
8. The band’s members never talked about politics. This was done deliberately or accidentally turned out so?
I do not know. We write songs about life and everyday experiences and feelings. And I do not think we’re experienced enough to talk about world issues and events.
9. Last question about the group. Your family like Depeche Mode?
I have two children. My son is 17 and he listens to a lot of Depeche Mode. But I have not heard that my daughter is listening to Depeche Mode. Although earlier during our concerts she used to dance on stage. Of course, they are proud of us. Already so many years have passed! We have thirty years together! I think our parents, brothers and sisters are also very proud of us.
10. Can you imagine that your music makes the driver inadvertently exceed the speed on the highway at 20 miles per hour? What do you think?
It is not very good, right? We try to address all kinds of emotions that come from our listeners. But perhaps speeding - it’s too much.
